Winners Announced, Bruce Rowland Recipient of International Achievement Award - 9 November 2005
The winners of the 2005 APRA - AGSC Screen Music Awards, announced tonight at Federation Square's BMW Edge Theatre in Melbourne, featured a line up of music composers any producer would be proud to have on their list of credits.
Voted for by a panel of respected industry judges from the film, television, advertising and music industries, some of this year's winners include Bruce Rowland, Decoder Ring, Christopher Elves, Nigel Westlake, Roger Mason, David Bridie & Frank Yamma and Neil Sutherland.
After taking out the Screen Music Award for Best Original Song at the 2004 Awards for their work on smash hit film Somersault, Decoder Ring have garnered further accolades for their work on the coming-of-age film, this time in the heavy-weight division Feature Film Score of the Year.
Backing up their performance at the Awards, David Bridie & Frank Yamma won Best Original Song Composed for a Feature Film, Telemovie, TV Series or Mini-Series for their collaboration, Pitjantjara from Mini-Series, The Alice.
The recipient of the prestigious International Achievement Award for 2005 has gone to Bruce Rowland for his body of work across film, television (including Mini-Series and children's programming) and major theatrical events. Bruce's first major success was seminal Australian feature film, The Man from Snowy River, which he followed up with Phar Lap a year later. Bruce Rowland's film credits include scores for All the Rivers Run, Anzacs, Zeus & Roxanne, Badlands, Andre the Seal and Lightning Jack.
Other winners include Neil Sutherland (Most Performed Screen Composer - Australia), Garry McDonald & Laurie Stone (Most Performed Screen Composer - Overseas), Decoder Ring (Feature Film Score of the Year - Somersault), Carla Thackrah (Best Music for a Documentary - Sex, Drugs & String Quartets), Bruce Rowland (Best Music for a Short Film - The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello), Stephen Rae (Best Music for a Television Series or Serial - Love My Way), Christopher Elves (Best Music for an Advertisement - A.R.U Butterflies), Roger Mason (Best Soundtrack Album - The Extra), Nigel Westlake (Best Music for a Mini-Series or Telemovie - Hell Has Harbour Views), David Bridie & Frank Yamma (Best Original Song Composed for a Feature Film, Telemovie, TV Series or Mini-Series - The Alice: Pitjantjara), Neil Sutherland (Best Television Theme - Colour of War: Anzacs), Chris Neal & Braedy Neal (Best Music for Children's Television - Foreign Exchange: Episode 1).
The fourth annual APRA - AGSC Screen Music Awards were held at the BMW Edge Theatre, Federation Square and were hosted by James Valentine. A 12 piece orchestra, led by musical director and conductor Paul Grabowsky performed nominated compositions for the audience.
Guests and presenters on the night included Iva Davies, Peter Garrett, Mark Seymour, Lisa Hensley, Myf Warhurst, Red Symons, Dave Graney, Clare Moore, Josh Abrahams and Andrew Urban.
