Licence types

APRA offer a range of licences to suit the different needs of our clients. Following is a list of the types of licences we offer. If you are uncertain as to which one is relevant for your organisation, just contact us on 1300 852 388

Music in Business

Many different types of businesses use music, including retail outlets, fitness centres and hospitality venues such as cafes, hotels and restaurants. Music can be played either via a radio, CD, TV, or you may have karaoke or live performances in your establishment. Your business may also use music on its telephone, as part of a music on hold system. APRA can provide you with a licence to suit your needs - to find out more about music in your business licences, click here.

Events

APRA licenses events where music is used, including promoted concerts, dance parties and other performances. APRA can also license certain uses of music in theatrical productions, although in some cases you may need to negotiate directly with the copyright owner. Click here for information on events licences.

Education and Print

APRA licenses educational institutions for the photocopying, recording and performing of music.

RECORDING MUSIC

If you intend making an audio recording of a song or music, you will need a licence. We also licence the making of recordings for non-retail purposes such as in-flight airline programmes, telephone services and aerobics classes.

Production Music

Our production music department can assist you with a licence for the use of production music in audio-visual productions and in some cases we may be able to help in obtaining a licence for use of commercial music in audio-visual productions.

On-line and Mobile Phone Ringtones

APRA has a number of licences for on-line music services. We also license the use of music in mobile phone ringtones.

Broadcasters

APRA licenses radio and television stations, including free to air and pay stations, community broadcasters and narrowcasters. Licences cover the broadcast of music and certain reproductions of music.
