Broadcasters are one of APRA’s and AMCOS’s main user groups. They not only broadcast music, they also reproduce it on a regular basis, and as such usually require two types of licences to cover these different uses.
APRA broadcast licences authorise the broadcast of all works in our repertoire on the broadcaster’s service. In return for the licence, broadcasters pay a licence fee and usually need to provide us with music returns and cue sheets to identify the music they have broadcast.
AMCOS reproduction licences authorise the reproduction of music in certain circumstances. For example, theses licences do not cover the use of commissioned works. There are also limitations on the use of commercially released music (e.g. under the licence, commercially released music cannot be reproduced in an advertisement ).
APRA broadcast and AMCOS reproduction licences are tailored according to the type of broadcaster.
