Many retail outlets, service and health professionals, use music in their business. The most common uses of music include playing CDs, radio, television, videos or DVDs or music-on-hold on the telephone. Some businesses may also have performances via live artists, DJs or karaoke at some point during the year.
Following is a list of the various licences available from APRA. Simply download the agreements relevant to you, complete them and return them to APRA.

Licence fees may be a tax deductible expense and the GST component an input tax credit.
Where appropriate, fees are subject to an automatic annual adjustment in accordance with the percentage rise in the consumer price index (All Groups Sydney, September Quarter)
Background Music
An annual licence that covers the use of:
- Background Music System, including CD, tape player, radio, background music service and/or each zone/channel of a multi-channel device;
- Radio and/or TV sets used to show video/DVD, free to air and/or subscription TV;
- Audio Juke Box;
- Large Screen and/or Video Juke Box

Music on Hold
Covers the use of radio, tape, CD or pre-recorded messages and music via a telecommunication system to callers on hold. Annual fees vary according to the number of external telephone lines.

Music in the Workplace
Covers performances in the workplace for the benefit of employees at the office, at company functions, staff Christmas parties and as part of staff training and marketing presentations.

Karaoke
An annual licence that covers performance occurring during karaoke functions. Karaoke licence application and fees
Live Performances: Annual
An annual licence to cover performances at the premises by live-artist performers. Annual fees are calculated on 2.2% of gross expenditure on live-artist performers plus 1.65% of gross admission receipts where “door deals” occur.

Covers miscellaneous performances and one-off events. Fees vary according to circumstances.
