Rest in Peace: Mr Dargin

Alan Dargin suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died at Saint Vincents Hospital, Darlinghurst in Sydney just before sunrise on Sunday, February 24, 2008. He was 40 years old. A Wiradjuri man, he was one of the world's foremost didgeridoo players and was an innovator on his instrument. He began learning the instrument from his grandfather at age five. During his life he shared the stage with James Morrison, Jimmy Barnes, Roy Ayers, Tommy Emmanuel, the London Symphony Orchestra (at Royal Albert Hall) and the Vienna Philharmonic. He contributed to albums by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Yothu Yindi, Tommy Emmanuel and Wallace Buchanan (Jamiroquai). He featured as an actor in the Fringe Dwellers and The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert. Before his death he was determined to release his last recording, MRD, that features collaborations with legendary musicians such as Tommy Emmanuel, James Morrison, and many other virtuosos duetting with didgeridoo on instruments as varied as guitar, steel drums, keyboard, Chinese flute, trumpet, electric bass, and voice.
