Supporting Top End songwriters: APRA opens the door in Darwin

Leading national and NT music industry representatives joined Rob Collins, National Indigenous & NT Writer Services Representative, to celebrate the opening of APRA's Darwin office last night.

"The APRA office will provide local members and Indigenous artists with a space to meet, find out more about music, copyright and royalties, log performances and explore grants and other industry opportunities. I invite all NT songwriters and composers to drop in to discuss any music and copyright matters, and sign up for membership," said Rob.

Located in the Darwin arts hub, Brownsmart, APRA will be sharing office space with local arts organisations, Music NT, The Fringe Festival, Darwin Theatre Company and Fist Full of Films; providing NT music creators with a 'one-stop shop' for community arts and music resources.

APRA is committed to establishing programs and services to meet the needs of NT songwriters and Indigenous artists nationally. Speaking at the office opening, Sally Howland, Director Member Services APRA|AMCOS said: "Since his appointment in January, Rob has helped groups of Indigenous songwriters in SA and NT connect with APRA's resources and services, he is also in the process of establishing an Indigenous Reference Group to develop Indigenous strategies and protocols for APRA's operations. It is still early days, but our principal aim is to be able to help our Indigenous members in a truly meaningful way."

APRA's Darwin office is now open at:

Brownsmart Community Arts
12 Smith Street, Darwin NT 0801
