June 2005 - Issue No. 28
KAYE HAWLEY'S UPDATE

by Kaye Hawley
Manager Publisher Services, APRA

Now that the dust has settled on the distribution, it's time to turn our thoughts to other issues until 42B comes around in November.

Our next Publisher Forum will be in August. You will receive invitations in July. We would like to hear from you with any suggestions you have for discussion items.

APRA is conducting a Publisher Survey. Our Communications team will visit several publishers to conduct on-site interviews throughout June and July. Many thanks to all participating Publishers - it can't be stressed too highly that the information gained is invaluable in enabling us to access our service and facilities and where we can improve to make dealing with APRA|AMCOS a pleasure rather than a duty.

Scot Morris Director of International Relations recently hosted training sessions for representatives from several of our Asian affiliates. The delegates came from FILSCAP (Philippines) MACP (Malaysia) MUST (Taiwan) KCI (Indonesia) MSCS (China) and COMPASS (Singapore). The intensive training sessions covered areas such as Membership, Licensing, Distribution, Mechanical Licensing, IT/EDP and International Relations.

We were also lucky enough to be able to arrange on-site visits with two of our very generous publisher members, Origin Network and BMG Music. The visits gave the 12 delegates an invaluable perspective on business from the publishers’ point of view.

Don't forget to check out the Publisher Resources page on the APRA site as all Unidentified Lists and the Warsaw works have been updated.

Finally, congratulations to all our Award winners and I trust everyone enjoyed themselves on the night as much as I did.

AMCOS UPDATE: Ensure you receive accurate earnings
One of the eventual advantages AMCOS will have in making payments from CMS instead of AREV is that we will be able to make accurate distributions of mechanical collection period earnings where publishers’ terminated agreements are recorded on CMS. This applies to both General Catalogue Agreements & Specific Works Agreements.  Follow these simple steps to ensure you receive accurate payments. Read more
UNI DEAL DONE

The deal provides for a broad grant of licence including public performance, reproduction (not including print music) and communication rights – principally related to the use of music on university intranets for educational purposes. Read more
