MARK EADES' UPDATE

by Mark Eades
Manager Publisher Services, APRA

It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the new Manager of Publisher Services at APRA. For those who don’t yet know me, I began working at APRA in 1998 in the Distribution department as a Completing Clerk. I joined the Publisher Services department in 2001 as a Research and Copyright Administrator, and since 2003 have held the position of Senior Officer of Publisher Services. My experience at APRA has therefore been focused entirely on copyright ownership and the music publishing business, and over the last few years I have worked closely with Kaye Hawley on key projects and to resolve issues faced by the department. I am excited to now be able to employ my experience in a managerial capacity and carry on work done by Kaye to consolidate and improve our services to publisher members.

I would also like to welcome Gillian Dunn to the position of Senior Officer of Publisher Services. Gillian has worked in the department as a Publisher Representative since 2002 and took on Publisher Help Desk responsibilities last year. She will continue her Help Desk work in her new capacity as Senior Officer. Those of you who know Gillian will be well aware of her diligence and helpful attitude; in recognition of her valuable work at APRA Gillian was awarded APRA Employee Of  The Year in 2005.

Please feel free to contact me at any time to introduce yourself and have a chat or discuss any issues/problems relating to APRA|AMCOS business (phone 02 9935 7775).

APRA Distribution 43A (payment for earnings from July to December 2005) is already just around the corner, so the coming few months will be a busy time for Publisher Services. In order to assist us in processing all copyright ownership changes in time for the distribution, we request that you adhere to the cutoff deadlines for agreement and work (title) registrations, as below:
Agreement registrations: 10 March 2006
Work registrations: 24 March 2006

MEDIA LICENSING MANAGER NOW IN MELBOURNE
As some of you may know Maddy Kortegast has moved into a new role - Media Licensing Manager - and into a new city - Melbourne.  David Sheils has been promoted into her old role as Production Music Manager.

Maddy's new position encompasses a variety of mechanical licensing roles. Maddy continues to work with independent TV Producers and co-ordinates the mini-blanket licences that are approved by the AMCOS Board from time to time.  Maddy also acts as a liaison point between APRA's licensing, membership and distribution departments with respect to the administration of  "licence back" and "opt outs" as chosen by new and existing AMCOS members, across all business lines.

Maddy's relocation to the APRA Melbourne office, also means there is a specific point of contact for all "southern" members and clients,  for mechanical licensing matters.  Maddy can be contacted on (03) 9426 5225 and maddy@apra.com.au
